Carmen Veronica Munroe came into the world on November 15, 1922 in the city of Kingston, Jamaica. She was the second of eight children of Herbert Bruce Scholes and Icilda Louisa Scholes (Mathon). She was predeceased by her brothers Frank, and Donny, her sisters Marion and Merle and by her eldest beloved daughter Jeanette. Carmen is survived by her younger sisters Phyllis Scholes and Daphne Sett, and by her younger brother Vernon Scholes . She leaves behind her five children: Neville, Maurice, Colin, David and Natalie. Carmen was the undisputed matriarch of the family and had 22 grandchildren, 31 great grand children and 1 great great grandchild.

“Ma, Mama, Sister Carmen, Gramma”, were just some of the names she answered to. She functioned on several levels in the lives of the whole family, her church family, and neighborhood. Carmen was a tireless fund raiser for the American Diabetes Association, as a “Junior” Senior, a mentor and helper to “Senior” Seniors, and the “Go-To” person in our family.

Ma, we will miss you, but what is our loss is heaven’s gain. Rest in Peace Carmen

Floral tributes may be sent to Grace Funeral Chapels Thursday 4/22 through Saturday 4/24. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Ascension Peace Presbyterian Church. Please contact Pastor Ray Anglin: (954) 733-7334.
